Wake Me Up
I remember the moment that I heard his name - Yom Kippur was around the corner when I heard the news that Ari Fuld had been stabbed outside a supermarket in the West Bank. And then I saw the footage - Ari, with a fatal injury, jumping a fence and taking down the terrorist who had just attacked him before he could harm anyone else. My jaw dropped. I knew I would need to paint this larger than life superhero.
I’m not sure who took the photo I came across of Ari blowing the shofar, but especially being so close to Yom Kippur, it struck me and I knew I needed to paint him. I hadn’t known much about Ari before his death, but as I quickly learned, he had been a hero, an inspiration and leader long before his final moments. Ari’s legacy impacted me more than words can say, and I was honoured to render him on canvas.
